IMPOERTANT MESSAGE FOR PARENTS AND CARERS
Many of you will have recieved a letter yesterday explaining that we will not be extending our wider opening of school on 1st June. We will of course continue with our online learning, daily telephone calls and online challenges please see the list below.
We are thinking of ways to give your children the ability to be creative, similar to what they are used to at Parkinson Lane.
We are therefore setting a challenge for you to upload a short 1 minute video with a theme each week. Winners each week will be posted on the school website and school Facebook page. The message is to use social media to make someone smile. You never know, you may make the next viral clip.
This week is week 1 and the themes are: -
Week 1 General – anything to make people smile.
Week 2 Ertugrol.
Week 3 Naat/Qiraat.
Week 4 Dance.
Week 5 Cooking a dish.
Week 6 Sing a song.
Week 7 Re-enact a scene from the Community Event.
Week 8 Speed Bounce.
Week 9 A tutorial on …

These videos should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.... by no later than Friday Noon each week.
It is also worth noting that Joe Wicks is doing a PE lesson at 9am every morning. If you logon to YouTube and search Joe Wicks, this will give children a good start to the day ahead.
Thank you again for all your support and we look forward to receiving your videos. Please join in parents.
Free School Meals
Please could parents check if you are eligible for your children to receive free school meals.
This not only helps you as a parent but also generates finance for school at a time when budgets are struggling.
Children can get free school meals, if their parents or guardians get:-
Universal Credit-your net earned income must be less than £7,400;
Job Seeker’s Allowance (Income Based);
Child Tax Credit, and have an annual income of less than £16,190 (as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs);
Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit;
Employment and Support Allowance;
Support Payments under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999;
Working Tax Credit Run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit).
You may collect a form from the school office, alternatively please contact Revenues and Benefits Service on 01422 288003.
Please could we remind all parents to contact school before 8.45am to inform school if your child is ill. If your child continues to feel unwell, you must phone school every day of their absence from school.
Signing of Passports
As some of you will be aware Parkinson Lane School has always aimed to help the community as much as possible. This has included counter-signing passports for those parents and pupils we have known for more than 2 years. This process happens in good faith and can be lengthy at times for our office manager who already has other deadlines to meet. It is with this in mind that we ask anyone wanting their passport counter-signing to have the courtesy to ask our permission before going ahead with the application.
We also ask for a donation of around £5 per passport to be donated to our PTA.
Please also be mindful that the office is busy and that passports which need counter-signing urgently will not always be processed. Urgent counter-signing should be sought elsewhere.
This is still an ongoing issue as we are still having children who attend breakfast club in the mornings and still use the pedestrian gate by the school office. These gates are not to be used by children. Even if the gates by the main office are open, these are not for pedestrian use, they are for expected deliveries only. Using this gate puts your child in danger.
We have some availability in our Wednesday Get fit club for parents whose children attend Parkinson lane. The club is a great way to keep fit and healthy with your child. This is every Wednesday 9.00am until 10.00am.
If you are interested, please contact Miss Nikki or Mrs Tahira Hussain in the school office.
Dinner money is now £2.00, please ensure payment is made via ParentPay on a weekly basis. It has come to our attention there is a substantial amount of dinner money outstanding. Please make every effort to ensure debts don’t mount up.
We will not allow children to stay for dinner where an outstanding amount goes over £50, this is the equivalent to 5 weeks of dinners.
As we increasingly become a cashless school, we would encourage you to familiarise yourselves with the Parent Pay system. You can use Parent Pay to make payments for school meals, milk and school trips currently. In the future we are hoping to allow payments for things like uniform items, but we will inform you when this happens. If you are experiencing any issues with Parent Pay, please do call into the school office where someone will help (it is best to avoid 9am and 3pm as these are extremely busy times).
Can we remind parent’s school doors open at 8.50am and close at 9.00am promptly; any children who come to school after 9.00am will be given a late mark and this will affect their attendance.
Please ensure when letters are sent home via your child, these letters are acknowledged, and any reply slips are returned as soon as possible.
In order for trips to take place, we would be looking at parental voluntary contributions. Without sufficient funds, these trips are not able to go ahead. Please make your contribution by ParentPay and consent.
Places have become available for the sewing class on Monday and Thursdays from 9.00 until 10.30pm. if you are interested or would like to make further enquiries please contact the school office.
Uniform is sold in the school office on Mondays and Fridays between 3pm and 4pm only.
In the event of snow school will make all efforts to remain open. However if following a risk assessment, it is deemed unsafe to remain open, any closure will be reported in the following ways:-
*A closure notice will be placed on the Calderdale and our School Website at the earliest possible opportunity.
*A post will be placed on our Facebook page.
If school does have any closure days, please ensure your child refers to their Emergency Closure Pack.
